Inspired by Motown and R&B legends of the 1960s and ’70s, DREAMGIRLS follows the rising stardom of the Dreamettes, an all-girl singing trio from Chicago. The three best friends — the phenomenally talented, but demanding Effie White, the beautiful and appealing Deena Jones, and the eager, romantic Lorrell Robinson — team up with driven, demanding manager Curtis Taylor, who is determined to see their — and his — star rise. As their careers begin to take off, changes are made to ensure their mass appeal to the pop market. Egos are bruised, tempers flare, and hearts are broken in pursuit of stardom. Inspired by the stories of groups such as The Supremes and The Shirelles and featuring many iconic classic songs, this hit musical is a love letter to American R&B music and the artists that make such music great.
Families are asked to arrive by 9:40 am to check in so our group can be seated in plenty of time before the 10am curtain call. This production has a running time of approximately 135 minutes.
This production is recommended for students in 6th grade and older. Student and adult tickets are $11 each. This is not a drop off field trip, an adult must accompany their student(s) to this production. Please note, paid parking is available at a parking garage (Cumberland Plaza Garage) located across from the courthouse, and metered spaces on the street. A payment of 25 cents is required to activate the meter; this payment will get you 15 minutes of parking PLUS one courtesy hour. It is then $2 for each additional hour (up to 4 hours). (Most performances it would cost roughly $2.25 to park.) Meters accept Visa/MasterCard and coins (quarters, dimes and nickels). Patrons should not park in the lot directly behind and beside the theatre, as it is owned by the city, and they will be ticketed without an authorized hang tag.
Tickets on sale until 5 pm on February 6, 2023, unless they sell out sooner. This trip requires a minimum in order to proceed.
