February 17 @ 9:45 am - 4:00 pm
Cost: $9.00 – $14.00
Organizer: Courtney Herron
Have you ever wanted your student to dissect a frog but didn’t want to do it at home? This is just the field trip for you. Join our group as students have the opportunity to explore the parts of the body and functions of organs through a hands-on investigation and dissection of a real frog. In this 45-minute lab, students will be partnered with a buddy and explore the inside of a frog with step by step directions from a lab technician who will help all students learn more about a frog through dissection. In addition to the dissection, families will have the opportunity to explore the Discovery Center at their leisure (the facility closes at 4pm) when students are not participating in the lab. There is an outdoor picnic area for those interested in bringing a picnic lunch to enjoy on site. This is not a drop off field trip. However, a parent is not required to remain inside the classroom lab while the dissection is taking place.
Discovery Center has numerous hands on indoor exhibits including MathRox, 5 Senses, Train Depot, Farmers Market, Firetruck, Waterworks, and more. Additionally, this location has numerous outdoor opportunities in their 25-acre wetlands.
Lab dissection is recommended for students in grades 2nd – 6th. For those students participating in the lab dissection the cost is $14 per student. For adults and other students not participating in the lab dissection the cost is $9 per person. Children under 2 are free. For those who have a membership to this location, the cost to participate in the lab does not change. However, additional family members may show their membership at the door at be admitted without an additional fee.
Families are asked to arrive by 9:45am to check in for this field trip. The lab is scheduled to begin promptly at 10 am and is scheduled to last 45 minutes. It is important that those participating in the lab use the restroom before the lab begins to help avoid additional distractions for all participants while the lab is taking place. It is important you secure the necessary lab tickets you need while they are available to purchase. There will be no last minute adds for this trip as the facility will be securing the exact number of frogs needed based on our final headcount.
Tickets on sale until 5 pm on January 13, 2023 unless they sell out sooner. This trip requires a minimum in order to proceed.
